Time to Detox:: Magical Leek Soup

I mentioned I was going to detox, and I wasn't kidding.  Ever since I read French Women Don't Get Fat (my review here) I've been intrigued to try the French version of detoxing ~ with leek soup.  I'm not one for fad crash diets, but I do buy in to the theory that every once and a while your body could use a "reset".  My purpose is not to lose weight, but cleanse my system for a fresh start of healthy eating once more.  Enter leek soup.

This method is meant to be done over the weekend, starting Saturday morning and concluding Sunday evening with a light meal. Since my December weekends are already brimming with social events, I decided to do mine during the week.  And since there's no time like the present, I am starting today.  I made the leek broth last night and have to say actually enjoyed the portion I had for breakfast.

detox method::
excerpt from the book French Women Don't Get Fat by Mireille Guiliano
The juice is to be drunk (reheated or at room temperature to taste) every 2 to 3 hours, 1 cup at a time
For meals, or whenever hungry, have som of the leeks themselves, 1/2 cup at a time.  Drizzle with a few drops of extra-virgin olive oil and lemon juice.  Season sparingly with salt and pepper.  Sprinkle with chopped parsley if you wish.
This will be your nourishment for both days, until Sunday dinner, when you can have a small piece of meat or fish (4 to 6 ounces), with 2 vegetables, steamed with a bit of butter or olive oil, and a piece of fruit.

I'll let you know what I think of the results... fingers crossed I make it!

Have you ever tried a detox?

I actually tried this a few years ago, just when the book came out....and after tasting the first portion I had to throw away the entire gigantic pot of soup. FAIL!!! But after reading that you actually enjoyed it, I might have to go back and try it again. Or maybe I'll wait until you've finished to hear what you think :)

I am intrigued. Will you let us know the end result?

I will definitely let you know how it goes! Anait, not everyone likes leeks, but I thought they were quite tasty this morning with just a little drizzle of olive oil and sea salt. So far I think the weekend is the best time to do it, because I had to break down today and make some coffee to get through work. :)

I just cannot get on board with Detox's anymore. I think in the long run they do more harm than good. The only one that i was able to follow more than 3 days was fat flush. Its clean eating on steroids.

I have to say that 3 days of clean eating is as good as a detox, for me.

Never done a detox - I'm interested to hear how it goes! I feel like I could use one after all the crap I ate last week/weekend! Glad your Thanksgiving was a success!!

I am so doing this! Love leeks and I can drink broth round the clock for days. Also I'm a big detox/cleanse fan. Never did this before though.

i always feel so great for the first 1/2 day of any cleanse i've done, but then quickly start to lose all resolve. how did it go?

Interesting method - I've eaten raw food only for a few days, and felt incredible - I don't much buy into fad diets, either, but maybe this one is worth trying.
